SLIC Bursaries

As part of a continuing effort to provide direct support to its members, the SLIC membership approved funds for language bursaries for SLIC members at the Annual General Meeting. 

SLIC Language Bursary

SLIC will award three bursaries, of $500.00 each, to members pursuing post-secondary coursework related to the instruction or delivery of second language curriculum in Alberta.

The successful recipients of the new SLIC bursaries will be randomly drawn from the applications submitted to SLIC. Deadline for application is June 7, 2023. The application form is available on the SLIC website.

  • Submission deadline: June 7, 2023
  • The SLIC encourages Alberta Teachers to improve their professional skills and knowledge by enrolling in courses that take place between July 1, 2023, and July 1, 2024.
  •  Applicants must hold a permanent Alberta teaching certificate.
  • To apply, download the application form and mail it to the SLIC vice-president at the address on the form. All entries must be postmarked before June 7, 2023. Faxes and e-mails will not be accepted.
  •  Conditions: 
    •  Post-secondary coursework must be directly related to the instruction or delivery of Second Language curriculum in Alberta. Independent study theses courses are not eligible.
    • Teachers who have received a SLIC bursary in the past three years are ineligible.
    • The names of three bursary recipients will be drawn from the list of qualified applicants.
    • All applicants will be informed of the results of the draw. ATA local associations will be notified of the names of the successful applicants.
    • The names of the successful applicants will be posted on the SLIC webpage.
    • Bursaries can be applied toward tuition costs only.
